White Whale by C. Diab

https://cdiab.bandcamp.com/album/white-whale-2

It deserves more than one listen but my first impression is his older stuff is better.

This is less experimental - some grooves - and some crescendo core sound

Lucem Ferre 06-09-2020 02:06 PM

Moodie Black's Fuzz is a great album.

Nicole Mitchell & Moor Mother - Offering - Live at Le Guess Who

Fetish Bones is still my favourite Moor Mother release but this free improvisation sonic abduction is amazing.

Alpha by Dawn Chorus and the Infallible Sea

https://pitp.bandcamp.com/album/alpha

Another of very many good Past Inside the Present releases

I’m listening to too much ambient music but I can’t seem to stomach much else recently

Music with words harsh my mellow unless I’m doing something active which I haven’t been.

I get Boards of Canada are amazing, but I feel like the fans that make music tend to be annoying with the amount of referencing they do.

Yeah. They’re kind of like Explosions in the Sky that way

And it’s true a lot of the stuff I’ve been listening to is the musical equivalent to fan fiction.

Resonators (1) by Keith Fullerton Whitman

A collection of very abstract instrumental drone interpretations of pop songs

You’ll need a keen ear

Roly Porter - "Kistvaen"

This is really great for how the past few months have been mood wise for me. I've really enjoyed everything he's ever put out, and one of my favorite Tri Angle releases is "Third Law". Really beautiful, goosebump giving slow melodies. I just really want people to listen to this, it encompasses everything I love about modern ambient music.

Here's a bit of background behind the premise of the album.

"Porter speculates on the burial site as a mirror, or a gate in time. Excavating stories and images of ancient burial rituals, the record teases out similarities in emotional and social rituals between the Neolithic period and today. While a myriad of social, cultural and technological factors drastically differentiate our contemporary period and the end of the Stone Age, certain affinities may still be found in experiences of death across eras."

Arrow by Sarah Lipstate (aka Noveller)

https://noveller.bandcamp.com/album/arrow

This ambient release will probably have more broad appeal than most of my recs. More Tangerine Dream than Eno imo. Worth a look.

Arca - KiCk i

Instant classic tbh. Arca's poppiest work to date while still maintaining their intricate glitchy production, I almost see it as Arca reciprocating the influence that they had on SOPHIE (who is featured on this album along with Bjork, Rosalia, and Shygirl). Arca going to their roots and bringing out a heavy Latin element to this album worked out insanely well, would be excited to see them leaning further in that direction.

Message from label:

Quote:

wannamarchi.club became self-aware on Aug 28 2020. After attempts to shut it down, wannamarchi.club retaliated by firing US nuclear missiles at North Korea who returned fire. 3bn lives were lost in a nuclear holocaust now known as "Summer Expo 2020". The Resistance sent a T-800 back in time resulting in a timeline where wannamarchi.club was never created.

Nihiloxica "Kaloli"

Was looking for some more organic rhythms, and something not from Europe as I need to branch out a bit. Basically a Ugandan rhythm section with a drum kit and a synth (not in a cheesy way). It really gels; the western and African instruments combined create something tight, and super groovy. The synth basically just adds texture and atmosphere more so than being just something used to play melodies, which I really dig.
