Beautiful folk music from a Kentucky native.

Conway the Machine

Quote:
In 2012 Conway was shot in the back of the head and neck, an incident that left him with Bell's Palsy, which paralyzed the right half of his face...Furthermore, his facial paralysis contributed to what Consequence of Sound described as "a mush-mouthed, yet visceral flow reflecting the sheer force of will needed to overcome the incident that could have easily ended his career".

That Orcutt album is pretty gorgeous but is a bit too safe for him. He should challenge himself more, I know he can rise up to it.

Well he’s already pushed the boundaries of tonality way out to the limits. To me it seems like Odds Against Tomorrow is the right balance. I get the impression it’s a very inward looking creation. Very meditative and reflective and has a good payoff for multiple listens.

However, an artistic follow up to A New Way To Pay Old Debts except on an electric guitar probably will happen. And that would be the album you’re looking for, I think.

The dub royalty octogenarian released two related albums both produced by the legendary Adrian Sherwood.

The best kiwi dub artist I ever heard about. we in here... is an uptempo beats jam which isn’t as much my scene but he does it really well a catches some damn fine grooves. Foraging is a fantastic moderately experimental ambient record and Peace Maker Dub is exactly as advertised. PMD is the release that earned him a spot on my hot 100.

All My Heroes Are Cornballs by JPEGMafia

I feel like he’s an extension of Biz Markie, Busta Rhymes, and ODB and that’s a lot but JPM is also the sound of the liberation of feminine love.

Purple Mountains

This one is kind of weird. It’s up in me like a fetus. I’m not in love with it yet but I can tell it’s a grower. I might have left this off it it weren’t for his suicide. His wiki page says he had a heavy drug past and he had $100,000 clocked up on his credit cards. And we’re close to the same age so there’s some stuff I can relate to although it’s looking like I’m just going to die the old fashioned way myself. Someday I’ll really appreciate this record.

The Mirror by People Like Us

Plunderphonics that does a really great job catching that surreal nostalgia thing like everything you hear makes you feel like that’s exactly what you were expecting and supposed to hear. I hope this stays available. There must be thousands of copyright violations.
