So you're saying it's right up YD's alley? He's the kind of guy who will casually refer to metal as screamo in everyday conversation.

I’m definitely more knowledgeable than than that but I’ll also definitely admit its far from my most researched genre

Bro thrash was the watershed genre of metal that spread it beyond being just a heavier form of rock and led to all the modern genres of metal that are still relevant to this day. And I'd say that bog standard thrash is kind of the beating heart and soul of what metal is. Which is why I love 90s metalcore so much as it was the true flag bearer of that kind of metal rather than death and black metal and grindcore.

I don’t generally find myself enjoying these “core” variations but I love the majority of thrash metal and black metal I’ve heard. Huge fan of most of Megadeth’s discography in particular. Machine Head’s “The Blackening” has been a long time favorite

Liking The Blackening past your mid-20s is a core sign of artistic taste stagnation tbh. Most popular 00s metal is pretty crap. Burn My Eyes is still brutal as **** though even if it is too long.

Metalcore is generally whack from what I've found, but grindcore and mathcore are generally pretty sick.

You have to admit that 90s metalcore as a genre that brought metal forward was a lot less whack than any later genre that attempted to bring metal forward that wasn't some weirdo experimental stuff.

I mean you know full well you'd pass on Mastodon if you hadn't first heard them when you were a kid.

Maybe. Leviathan is still pretty interesting.

Not really unless you're interested by bland sludge.

And they're a gimmick band who just sound delightfully whacky.
