On the scale of Lemon Chiffon to Royal Blue, what do you think of my taste in indie music?

I'm just pullin' their chain. I have no idea what your taste is, but you're a Genesis fan so you're all right. Even if you do like Abacab.

"Like"? Every time you mention Abacab I have to listen to the album, just to see if I was mistaken about its greatness. Our debate over the album pushed me from liking it slightly more than Plum to absolutely Royal Blue!

That's cool. As I've said many times before, I do like a lot of it. I'm just not in love with it the way you are. Give me seventies Genesis any day of the week. But it's not a terrible album, not by any means. Just my second-least-favourite.

Early 80s Genesis are still steeped in the music ideas - the keyboard sounds, guitar hooks, drum fills - of the 70s Genesis. Duke and Abacab are just a year apart and I always felt that the latter was a continuation of what they started with Duke. They're so many examples where Tony Banks was using the same sounds and ideas he used on both albums. I also felt Abacab was an evolution in music ideas for the band. Maybe people felt Genesis changed by then - ok maybe it has to do Phil's lyrics - but I really think they matured musically on Abacab. I don't feel like they fell off the tracks until MTV ruin everything. And it wasn't only Genesis, there are a bunch bands and artist went freely on to be Pop stars, MTV stars for better or for worse.
