Is kevin parker responsible for the rise of bedroom pop?

I would welcome opinions on whether Kevin Parker from Tame Impala has been the main influence behind the rise of musicians self producing their own material

I doubt it. That’s been going on since the dawn of recorded music.

And modern DIY certainly has earlier roots

MillyBee 08-05-2019 08:12 AM

yes that is true but a lot of press hype about it at the moment - do you think it is a good thing?

MillyBee 08-05-2019 08:13 AM

yes Elphenor hadn't thought of it from that point of view

What press? What musicians cite him as an influence?

MillyBee 08-05-2019 08:19 AM

NME, The Guardian, Billboard, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and a number of mainly Indie Artists I guess. Not saying I agree but just keen to hear people's opinions

Then added to that he is being sought as a collaborator by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Kanye West, Alex Turner etc. Obviously it is a small niche -

MillyBee 08-05-2019 08:33 AM

they are pretty popular - not heard of them before - is that your band?

MillyBee 08-05-2019 08:42 AM

haha thought so - yeah it's good - like the videos!

You should know about K Records and that scene, it’s important.

I get that Tame Impala is influential but the relevance of their influence is negligible because that path is so well travelled. If Samsung makes a new washer that people like it’s still just washes clothes. Tame Impala is the Samsung washing machine of psychedelic music.

I like Tame Impala but they’re not important beyond that. And that’s ok.
