Parker may well be the biggest factor in the current generation's approach to self produced bedroom pop.

But he's hardly the originator - to my eyes he's just the modern J. Mascis / Dinosaur Jr from the 90s.

And apparently Nick Drake produced all his albums in his bedroom as well back in the late 60s / early 70s.

Essentially, from the time the technology was available it's been happening. To claim that a modern retro act is an originator is laughable and just shows how little you actually know (even if I do like Tame Impala).

I agree, the process where technology became more affordable to the point where artists no longer need the support of a record label to record music is very linear and straightforward. Any associated sounds and paradigm shifts were driven by that new technology.

Lmao so you don't think that people would record music in their own homes if recording technology was dirt cheap in 1950 because punk didn't come yet?

Yes it's almost as if the cost of the technology is a much more clear and present influence on the democratization of music than genre.

To be clear what you’re saying is that “punk rock marks a shift in approach and paradigm that...”

finish that sentence for me so I can really get to the essence of what you’re saying
