There's not any one musician who played a large role on this rise, it's just the lowering cost of production. And elphenor doesn't play guitar, he was just a roadie for Disturbed on their Sound of Silence tour.

That tour was hard on the roadies because they brought in a piano for serious very grown up music time.

Tom Shulz of Boston recorded and produced most of the Boston albums in his own house.

Todd Rundgren likewise did just about everything on his own albums himself. Don't know if he recorded stuff in his bedroom, however.

Lots of previous artists did that kind of thing.

I think being a rich enough rock star to have a studio in your own house is kind of the opposite of what this thread is about.
