So if you don't know, Billboard uses a system based on chart position for their decade end lists and the Greatest of All Time List. What this means is that a song at #1 gets the most amount of points, #2 gets less points, #3 gets less points than #2, and so on. #100 gets the least. We're nearing the end of the 2010s decade (which actually ends in November), and I'll post the list weekly, along with updates within the top 100 and any updates to the All-Time top 250.

When I get back on my computer, I'll post the point system and the multipliers used. The default amount for a #1 is 65,000 (1.0 multiplier, used between 1991 and 2012) and right now a #1 gets 52,000 points.

There is some real dross in that list. Way better top 100s out there.

Its not based on quality in any way, it's just a popularity list using the Hot 100

We all know the industry cheats to get those #1s.

Always has, always will.

It was a lot worse before November 1991, that's when Billboard started using Nielsen data instead of just kinda having record stores report their sales which was ripe for abuse...

It’s still interesting and I don’t really care how music is marketed. More payola!

It's even more interesting to find out what they do to cheat the system though. (TBF you can't really market a song to #1 with out people liking it)

Oh there are some terrible #1 songs out there...

So are you saying you calculate your own top 100 that matches Billboards? What data do you source? Just wondering if you could filter it by genre or lable or something to see what other rankings come out.

I used the 2018 update to the all-time list as a guide and just kinda went from there. You can filter by genre, gender, and decade on the new update (top 600 only)

These lists are a great example of how the most popular songs tend to be mediocre.

If you talk **** about "Party Rock Anthem" then I will dog walk you.

I personally think a lot of pretty great songs are on both lists...but some pretty bad ones as well
