That's honestly the only Blind Guardian album and one of the only power metal albums in general I'm still lionish over and I still say give it time. A Night at the Opera has its own thing going on and perhaps you just need another listen or two to hear it. I would not push just any power metal album on you or anyone else for that matter, just that one in fact, because I have absolutely become more discriminating when it comes to that music and know when something isn't just another good version of a genre album.

I’m only interested in a new thrash band if you can guarantee they’re as good as Dark Angel.

**** YES THIS IS, THIS IS THRASH PERSONIFIED AND PERFECTED

Even Blaro says their guitar work is "god-tier". It's like Exodus slept through Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood and woke up pissed off and incensed that anyone thought they were on more meth than they were.

alright

I’ll let you know after I listen

But I’m warning you: Blind Guardian was strike one.

The Batlord 05-09-2019 04:34 PM

If you can love Bonded By Blood and not lose your **** over Eternal Nightmare then it will be strike two for you after Blind Guardian. There's no way you won't fall out of your chair though.

Bonded by Blood has the advantage of making itself known to me three decades ago.

The Batlord 05-09-2019 05:39 PM

Shut up, bitch, I didn't hear Eternal Nightmare until like a decade after I'd heard Bonded by Blood, and Eternal Nightmare has aged better for me.

Hey it's cool to hear everyone's thoughts about Starspawn! I know it's not for everyone by default by being a death metal album, but I think it's really special- I tend to rate albums that I like high because I don't care about being persnickety about what I love. If you don't feel the same way that's fine, of course, but I'm glad it's mostly gotten positive feedback!

PS Bats I would love to hear what you think since you're arguably the other active person in here as into metal as me (and Mondo, too). Oh and that other "Blasphemy" dude that only posts in like one thread.

I haven't listened to that much of it but it seems nice. Not amazing, the kind of death metal album that's meant for talking about more than listening to. You can totally listen to it but you're gonna be okay with switching bands after about 20 minutes and no matter what else the band has done to be memorable it's probably not going to be remembered tomorrow.

Wow. Tough opinion, but I appreciate your thought. I completely disagree as this is one of the most lauded extreme metal albums of the last decade, but I can see where you would feel that way, being more of a straightforward brutal death fan.
