Music theory question! Please help
Hello fellow musicians!
Im in trouble with a song im writing. Its a simple song with 4 chords. C - F - Am - G. Now theres a key change that goes to Cm in the Chorus. I Can go straigt to Cm which gives a cool feel, but I’m looking for a cadence that takes it there a bit more naturally. So i was wondering about the theory behind making a shift from minor to major and vice versa in the same key. Hope someone Can help me! I have tried to bridge it with a progression like: G - C - Dm - Em - F - G - Cm I dont know much about Music theory, so maybe not use too many Big words ;-) - belbow Last edited by Belbow; 04-24-2019 at 09:59 AM. |

Start watching Rick Beato's Youtube channel. Tons of really interesting music theory stuff there.

C-F-Am-G all are within the CMaj scale. So are Dm and Em.
Cm is a curve ball. It's either the vi of Eb or the ii of Bb. Where you planning on going after that Cm? Cm - Gm - Bb - Db would work and then start back with the main part.

Thanks for the reply Chula
Well. Here you Can have the Chord progression Vers C - F - Am - G x 4 F - G - C - Bb - F - Dm - C - G x 2 After this i play the progression previously mentioned: G - C - Dm - Em - F - G And then the Chorus / the second part of the song starts Cm - D# - Bb - F And I’m curious to know how I go back to the start from here Thanks |
