Album Club 2019: Dissona - Paleopneumatic
Dissona - Paleopneumatic
Looks like mine is up to bat. I'll give my own spin on why I like it / think it's an interesting metal album, etc in a separate post....but I will go ahead and say that this is a very busy metal album that touches a wider variety of styles. Enjoy. Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/album/7eH33eX2OBCsJvDfCKhcPO Bandcamp - https://dissona.bandcamp.com

I only began the album and I don't care much for it already, it's a bit tedious, but I want to go through the whole album sorta as an endurance test. I never got into Metal, cause after those bands that spear headed the genre in the 70s, it became cookie cutter and very predictable 80s and on. I never heard this album before but in the few five seconds after all the glitchy stuff and the band kicked in I was like I heard this before. There are spots it reminds me of Visual Kei. I don't think the synthesizer worked into the mix well it's a bit thin. But really isn't any problem compared to the clicky palm-mute/bass drum thing that is happening. This is the type of music they would play on the Hallmark channel. Hypothetically, say if they had a show called A Very Metal Christmas Special with words written by Andrew Lloyd Weber, music by Trans-Siberian Orchestra* and a Sega video game - this is exactly what you would hear. 6/10 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *edit: correction I meant Trans-Siberian Orchestra not Trans-Siberian Express

If there’s any problem it’s that it can be overwhelming how much there is to wade through There’s definitely oceans of mediocre generic metal but the bands that stand out really stand the **** out You like a lot of really cool music so I’m not at all trying to dis you but you’re ignoring a lot of incredibly powerful music <3

My own rating is around 8 out of 10, but I've had a year or so of of it floating around my Spotify and library playlists to where it grew on me.

You brought up Enslaved so I’ll address it. This is inferior in every way and certainly isn’t more “bonkers”.
Nea was harsh but on target I think - we’ll, I don’t know his references But it strikes me as generic emo-screamo Glossy and uninteresting 3/10 I still think you have great taste but not feeling this

Yeah I’ll go farther and say that it was everything about “metal” as a genre that I hate. I’m going to give it a generous 2/10, the one point being for effort. I honestly hated it.

However I hesitate apologizing for being "harsh" cause what I said about the album is neither here nor there in the spectrum of "nicest to harshest things that were ever said on Music Banter." I always feel like I get ripped (apart) for my music taste. I don't think I am being as bad as other people here. You could find fans of any of those references somewhere in the world. So in some remote circles they could be seen as praise. I guess it's all depends on how you look at it. Like what side of the fence you stand with those bands/artists. I am not to trying to be "harsh." I am just calling them as I see them (or hear them). They were just things that came to mind as I struggled to listen this album. Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Wizards in Winter My Top 8 Visual Kei Bands N.B. Not my top 8, but Mintsugakookies' Top 8. It has to do more with the guitar solos. Not everything that goes into a Visual Kei song. Andrew Lloyd Weber was (is) a English composer, specializing mostly in musicals. His lyricists was (is) Tim Rice. At one time they were well known on Broadway as Lennon & McCartney, or John & Taupin was well known in the Pop music. The Music of the Night - Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera Sega video game music Sega Game Music Vol.1 - Space Harrier

Having heard my fair share of emo and screamo stuff...yeah, definitely not a screamo album. And "emo" is a whole 'nother universe entirely (if we're talking about that scene that started with Sunny Day Real Estate).
I'll get Boston up later on, been a busier week than normal for me.
