Pitchfork BitchDork
A thread where you can enlighten me with your song recommendations.
According to Batty I have Pitchfork taste, which is pretty accurate; attempts to broaden my horizon are appreciated (but success is not guaranteed) Book and film recs are cool too |

I don't know what you might or might not like, so here's just three tracks that I personally was very impressed by. If you only wanna bother with one video at a time, the most important one is the one posted at the top:
Barbara Morgenstern - Brain**** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUr2Rq3moKI The composition and audio layering in this one is fantastic. I love the video as well. Really hypnotic, and goes very well with the music. Judie Tzuke - Girl without a name (The cat is out, 1985) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obcKZYlSUBE Total 80's overload here, but in a good way. It really scratches an itch for me. I love Judie Tzuke, I love this album, I love this song. Waltari - The Stage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn9S5fPaO_8 This is the wildcard pick. I love this band, but I don't expect anyone else to like it. Don't hold back if you think it's crap. It's ok! |
Frownland - I feel enlightened already
Unitron- awesome, sort of L7 vibes but different. Love the rythm thing near 2:00 Oriphiel - love it, reminds me of Kleenex <3 Grindy - just started listening, the instruments have me hooked already. Voice like Tom Verlaine on steriods MicShazam - whoa, I'm definitely getting to all af them this is all awesome so far |
|
^Great album cover!
|
Great album.
|
I don't even remember what it is. I'm thinking 90's alt rock or grunge due to the cover.

MicShazam - love the beginning of the first one, from the moment the voice and more 'airy' instruments kick in it's less my thing, but I still like it. The rythm is nice, and you're right that it's well layered, the different parts complement each other nicely
The second one is too 80's for me, that beat and those sythesizers hahaha I can appreciate the chorus of the third one, but that kind of slow rapping irks me Plankton - Hell yeah. Not something that I would regularly listen too, but great headbanger |
I recommend every single thing I've posted in my own journal lol
According to Bat I too am white bread so idk how broadly your horizons will... broaden. Unless you let me rec you hiphop. |

and for your next rec, Girlschool was one of these guys' favorite metal contemporaries: |

Gaye Su Akyol - Hemşerim Memleket Nere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovtSJVtkwho Just whenever you got time. I'm spamming too much here. I promise it's something different than the ones I posted last. |
Film rec: The Wicker Man (1973)
Album rec: the soundtrack and film score |

WWWP - yeah I should delve through your jounal recs, I saw a bunch of things I liked there and your Yo La Tengo cover spoke to me. Hiphop would be interesting because I know nothing about it, I only know and like a few songs by Public Enemy, Princess Nokia, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar
Unitron - I never tried Motörhead because I discarded it as 'probably too metal' but I actually really like this, it sounds very grunge MicShazam - Spam away hon, you have a very contagious kind of enthouiasm when it comes to your music. I first thought this song was ok but not really for me but then I found myself bopping my head to it, which means it got to me. Zantheimi - This is really nice, beautiful and playful. I remember finding cool things in your journals too Edit: just when I thought it was cool enough I came to the bagpipe part, man I love bagpipes so much Anteater - I don't care about the vocals but I like the dynamics and melodies, especially the instrumental parts. I'm intrigued |

About Unitron's Motörhead pick: Like Lemmy would always say "we're Motörhead and we play rock'n'roll". They're very popular among metalheads, but should really be considered a rock band. I don't know what Unitron would say, but I think "Overkill" and "Bomber" are two faultless albums by the band.

The whole point of this thread is to ween Maria off of P4k-core.

Just pointing out that pitchfork is a good resource

Btw: Sacrifice is probably the closest to undeniably metal they got. |

But I think I get how you look at it and I don't really have a horse in that race. I just personally think of certain musical properties when I think metal. Quote:

Windsock - like the rythm and groove and the way the sounds interact. After a while it could use some more variation on first listen, but this is interesting
grindy - love it, also wonderful rhytmically and sonically it sort of tickles your ears unitron - I don't really care for the cosmic psychos song, but I like Black Sabbath a lot. It's the only 'metal' band I'd given a chance besides Led Zeppelin. I like the second Motörhead song less than the first, the engine-like guitar drone and vocals sound more metal in that way I've never cared for. I did really enjoy the guitar solo part though |
