Sad Lovers and Giants - Les Annees Vertes

Going into some late 80's post-punk oriented fun here it seems. Let's jump in!

P.S. My keyboard did something weird on the thread title. I need a mod to fix dat spelling. Kkthx.

Even though this band bubbled up at damn near the same time they were probably pretty taken with Echo and the Bunnymen’s Crocodiles. However, I’ve never heard Sad Lovers & Giants before. I’m interested in the records they recorded before this and plan on exploring their discography. It’s also got me thinking I need to freshen up on my Banshees. Sad Lovers & Giants have the important elements on display here. Quality song writing, interesting and enthusiastic and talented contributions from the entire band, very strong lead vocals and engaging catchy tunes. I feel bad for missing out for so long. Another MB game lifter- WWWP shines a light. I’m going to say 8/10 although it might be higher. It takes more time for me to know and cramming in multiple listenings doesn’t work with me.

This really takes me back to my memories of 80s MTV, when everyone had a really strong English accent in their vocals. As a compilation, this has some alternate and live tracks not found on the band's studio albums, and this being my first brush with Sad Lovers & Giants, I cannot help but be immediately infected by the jangly guitars and erratic yet melodic synths. They've got quite a bit of pep in their brooding facade.

7/10, because 8/10 or higher means I have to put it in my collection, and I don't like it enough to ever listen to it again.

These guys were a fun group to experience. Like a punkier Echo & The Bunnymen with a touch of Information Society. 'Sex Without Gravity' was a particular highlight to me, partly because it was off kilter yet still in possession of a wicked bassline and flashy sax. Very quality material throughout, and I got Paisley Underground shivers on 'There Was No Time' too.

7.5 out of 10, would jam again!

I wasn't too busy to listen, I was too busy to remember that I should.
