Tight, short compositions. Abrasive, melodic hard rock stylings. Vocals that defy expectations. I'd say it's their most consistent album yet.

Pitchfork gave it a really bad review. I got it cued up though.

Same reviewer also gave the new Holly Herndon an 8.2 so it's safe to say I have differing tastes.

If something gets a good review on pitchfork I consider a good sign but their bad reviews don’t carry much weight with me. I also think records that score under 4 are likely to be better than records ranked between 5-7.

HEALTH has just been an alright band to me, but I remember this album being a bit more enjoyable than the others.

Loving the new Wreck and Reference album, Absolute Still Life. Sturdy Dawn is one of, if not their best, track.

Just listened to this album. Very impressive. Sort of like what I imagine a 2019 Slint might be like. Seems like it will only get better with multiple listens too. A lot going on. AOTY top something for sure.

For me, it's way too maximal to be compared to Slint.

Well Absolute Still Life does the spoken word thing and all the genre blending breeds a similar kind of dynamic from soft to smashing. But yeah I get your point. When I said a 2019 Slint I meant a very heavy emphasis on the 2019 part.

Twins are doing great, both are super healthy and kicking around in there. I sing to them every night, usually Beatles ballads or some vocal jazz song. I did “God Only Knows” tonight. They respond well to “What a Wonderful World.”

I currently work for the YMCA and most of the kids fight more than the ones that I worked with in Nicaragua who were literally glue sniffing addicts who lived in actual garbage, so make that of what you will. Iowans don’t **** around.

Still waiting on some random **** related to my teaching license since I’ve moved states, but I thiiiiiink it’s all gonna work out. I have a job lined up to teach freshmen English and debate!
