Psych Latin Amereekah
Good morning guys. So this is where we're going to post all the crazy and cool stuff from Latin America. And this means anything because Latin America is the cool version of America. Ok lil' bit of irony but seriously, this is where we are going to post everything from Latin America, simple as that. Feel free to share your discoveries and be happy. :tramp:
ps: Maybe not everything, just newer sounds, cause I'm thinking about opening another thread for old LatAm rock and music in general (from the 60's, 70's and 80's) |
All the way from Brazeel:
|
All the way from Puerto Reeco:
All the way from Mexeeco: All the way from Cheele: All the way from Argenteena: All the way from Peeru: |

Here's one of my favorite albums released in 2017. The debut album from "Combo Chimbita" rooted in Colombia and currently based in New York City.

Sidestepper, another jewel of Colombian origin: |
Some good sounds on these past two pages. I'm familiar with Juana Molina (I have 3 of her albums) and BianaSystem (I have 2 of theirs) but everything else you've mentioned is new to me.
Here's another NYC based group which released one of my favorite albums of 2018... https://i.ibb.co/yV298cx/RC.jpg La Mecánica Popular - Roza Cruz (2018) Roza Cruz La Mecánica Popular - Móntame en la Tormenta |
This one is an album I found in 2003, in a Mexican shop located in Austin, Texas. I took a chance and bought it based on the info on the hype sticker on the cover.
It's a solo project by a Guatemalan guitarist named Juancarlos Barrios. Definitely not a guitar oriented album, though. |
The other video I posted here was removed by the band and they don't have anything else uploaded so I decided to substitute it with another song from Combo Chimbita.
Combo Chimbita - Testigo |
The newest album from "Sonido Gallo Negro" out of Mexico City, Mexico...
|
Some favorites from Chile:
The Chilean Folk of Gepe The first politicized rhymes of Ana Tijoux as a member of the Hip-hop group Makiza Recently mined from Youtube, Electronic musician Motivado And the trippy Föllakzoid |
Some minimalist psych-folk from "Loli Cosmica" of Argentina...
|
Here's a recent album from Venezuelan born musician Ray Lugo with film score composer Jake Fader...

Very good man, I was wondering where does all your taste for Latin music come from :)
Mitú from Colombia, a favorite |

Definitely not a psych song by any stretch of the imagination but that's almost certainly where my addiction began back in the 60's. Once I heard that song, I was hooked and had to have more. Before I knew what had happened, I was into the Colombian stuff, the Mexican stuff, the Peruvian stuff, etc. It's become an insatiable life-long hunger for more which never ends. |
Here's one from Peru. A bit of mostly instrumental avant-garde/electronic/psych with a Theremin featuring prominently throughout. Some of it reminds me of early 70's Pink Floyd, and some of it reminds me of eerie 50's sci-fi film scores...

More New Brazils
|

|
This one is the third album from a group called "Los Espiritus" (The Spirits) out of Buenos Aires, Argentina, with their album titled "Agua Ardiente" (Burning Water)...
|
Not primarily a psych group, but this song has a bit of a groovy psych vibe to it.
From Mexico City, Mexico... Café Tacuba - FUTURO |
|
|
A couple of groups (both fronted by female vocalists) which aren't primarily psych oriented but do have elements of psychedelia in some of their music...
From Bogotá, Colombia... Bomba Estéreo - El Alma y el Cuerpo And from Mexico City, Mexico... Sotomayor - Cielo |
I was watching that Sotomayor video just last week. Very nice.
I've kinda dropped the idea of "psych" when posting here 'cause I'm pretty much just dividing new(ish) from old(ish) in these threads. |
