*** On Feel The Noize
Whose version do you like best?
I vote for the original: Slade! But, like potato chips, hard to pick 1!!! Quiet Riot Oasis (There's more, too, so add on if it's a different one) |
Slade
It evokes the most peculiar feelings. Obviously it’s a party jam so it puts you in party mode but it’s also nostalgic- and I think it even had this nostalgic quality immediately. There’s a slight reservation in the vocals to where it’s not really a full throttle party song. There’s a tiny undertone that’s saying I wish we could find this nirvana but it’s too elusive. Because of that the nostalgia is also seasoned with sorrow. Nostalgia for something that never even really was. Slade had the first and final say on that song but I like the covers too Come on feel the Illinoise is decent pun. Anyway, clear and decisive vote for the original and even though it’s a heralded song it’s still probably underrated. |

Slade's. QR's original material is better than their covers anyway.

I love Slade and the glam rock era

Yeah, Slade definitely.
Quiet Riot got popular for their Slade covers, but does a bad job at representing the band. They were a lot better than the covers would show. |
The first time I heard Slade I was at some basement dive bar in Tokyo, and the proprietor was playing Slade DVDs all night. Fascinating stuff!

I remember back in the days of Limewire (talking like 15 years ago) I could get the Quiet Riot version quite easily, but I couldn't find Slade anywhere! This was before Youtube, and I think even when that started it wasn't on there yet. When I finally heard the Slade version I was a bit let down, but as I've gotten older I like it better.
