@MicShazam: First song sounds like something off of Secret Messages, but not exactly my thang

Second song has a sexy groove, I felt it

Third song was unavailable for me

In conclusion, Disco rules

windsock 11-08-2018 12:12 PM

This is a funk song if you couldn't tell.

Oriphiel 11-08-2018 12:21 PM

@windsock: Damn, you've got me dancing. 10/10, unassailable groove.

I don't know if you ever checked out Kristeen Young (posted a bit above), but I feel like it might be your kinda thing.

Of the many things I'm into, it's one of the few I feel even semi confident in recommending to you.

Oriphiel 11-08-2018 12:23 PM

Hey elph, you wanna start a Garage Disco band?

We can splice in tape loops of babies crying to make it experimental

Bruh, young dumb cretins going RAARGH!!! is great when they're not just emulating 50 million guys who're trying to sound like the guy from Cannibal Corpse.

Do me a favor and check this out as those guys were riffing on these guys who have different vocals. They were basically the first metalheads to take influence from hardcore punk and then they had songs like this that were Sabbath as ****. And they couldn't play their instruments for **** so that's nice. Basically the ****tiest metal band of all time.

Check this then and see if you're actually down.

Spoiler for For Oriphiel's eyes only, these videos are for nobody else:
Plastiscines: Bicyclette

Destroy All Monsters - Nobody Knows

The Only Ones - City of Fun

Black Francis 11-08-2018 02:50 PM

As weak as the sauce you put on red beans and rice? Cause if that's the case, that's an insult.

My Spanish not so good. Is that "rice with Hobit Chualas?"

windsock 11-08-2018 04:02 PM

I think it's "Hobbit Chulas".

Oriphiel 11-08-2018 04:42 PM

Grindy - Sounds like weird Ska Jazz with like Czech vocals. I guess I can dig it.

Black Francis - Hey, that was actually pretty fun. Second song was cool, Salsa is groovy.

Polly - You've played the first song for me in Plug, but great live performance. Second and third songs have a sort of Bomp! '80s Garage kind of sound, love love love. Have you played them for me before? It's been such a long time since we plugged/dubbed.

Windsock - Ha, fun, sort of chill too.

Unitron - Sure, I could get into a street fight to this (actually I prefer Disco for fight music, but whatever).

Rostasi - OH **** that's some fine groove, man. I'd ride that ship in a heartbeat.

Mondo Bungle 11-08-2018 04:46 PM

Oriphiel 11-08-2018 04:59 PM

Mondo - Listening to it right now. Sounds like Twin Peaks ate Crystal Chronicles, and then chased it down with a glitchy drum machine. It's nice, I like it. Good ramp up of energy by the end.

But damn it, I want funky stuff that I can really get down to.

You want funky? Why didn't you say so?

We got funky:

Oriphiel 11-08-2018 05:10 PM

Ha ha, well I did ask for it

Groovy bass, nice chugging guitars, the masks just remind me of Killer Klowns From Outer Space

But it lacked the sexification of like '70s and '80s Funk that I crave

Try these:

Skip to Fat City Strut for the best bop in the world.

This song blew my mind and has funky bass played in such a menacing way I was unfamiliar with.

Thanks, it's been a while since we cross paths in plug. I knida miss those days plug was a regular thing. I played the last bands in plug but I don't recall you being there.

The first song isn't "Funk," but has a bassline that grooves à la Debbie Googe. The second song is 200 proof Funk.

Pram_The Legendary Band Of Venus

Carl Carlton - Shes A Bad Mama Jama

Oriphiel 11-09-2018 02:38 AM

Mord - Like a sterilized version of Coffee Homeground. Ya'll need Kate Bush, stat.

Batlord - Meh. Kinda reminded me of Dynasty Warriors 4, for some reason.

Rostasi - Smooth and sexy, great groove, I would totally jam this during a party. Second song had a nice fat bounce, fun synthy '80s club feeling, I love George Clinton.

Frownland - lol

Unitron - Fine recs, album sounded like a spy movie. Last song had a cool sort of Industrial Funk thang.

Mondo - Pretty cool, sort of lonely '80s Art Funk, might grow on me. But it didn't make me dance, and that's my ultimate metric.

Plankton - Ha ha, nice. Sleaxy vox, great horns. Love the "cowbelt". Wish I could shove the bongo player aside and take his place, I would have spiced that **** up. Ooh, the second song is sexy, got me drumming along.

Polly - Aw, that was kinda adorable. Soft vox and an atmospheric bass. Kinda like the band Mondo posted, they sound like the sort of bands that probably had Peel Sessions. Didn't make me dance, but I have a soft spot for female vox. Second song, bullseye, aw yeah, love fat and synthy '80s Funk, like I'm fooling around in the backseat of one of those bouncy retro low riders, and he's got a great voice.
