It reminds me Ryan Adams Heartbreaker (that’s a huge compliment). Usually, I’m partial to the stripped down sound which the album has a lot of but I also love the big production in The Joke. The pairing of the stripped down base with the orchestration reminds me of Stardust by Willie Nelson (which I consider the gold standard). Stardust doesn’t have any songs that build into a big dramatic crescendo like that but the way that the orchestra is used is similar to my mind.

I’d need more listens to really know but yeah I enjoyed it.

Yeah I heard mixed reviews on the production since it's often maximalist, but I personally enjoy it. Definitely comes off like a classic rock / country crossover hit from the late 70's with all the strings, and I mean that in the best possible way. Every song is innately sing-able, even if I can't ever hit those glorious high notes.

I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. I'm still loving it regularly.
