Edit: And you're actually not too far off, either. R.A. has toured with ICP, opening for them.

I wanted to display his progression as an artist by posting an old song and a new one. I could have gone even older with some NIGHT OF THE BLOODY APES sh*t LOL. |

You'll probably love her if you liked that Lole y Manuel album. I still need to chew on the new album a little more.

This was... uhh... interesting?
Not sure I could listen to that for regular musical enjoyment, but I guess I did have fun with it. Pretty cool. I've known this band for ages (about 20 years), but somehow never really taken a closer listen. In my mind, I place them side by side with Filter under "bands that I might enjoy but can't seem to pull myself together enough to take a closer listen to". Turns out this album is pretty promising. Followed a Youtube link to another Incubus album and also liked what I heard there. I like the bass grooves, the drumming, and even the vocalist (even if he sometimes reminds me a slight bit of Anthony Kiedis). |

Liked it: Ehhhh..... I'm not so sure. I'm not sure I think that guys' vocal approach really works for me. In any case, I'd have to return to this one to really know what I feel about it. I like some things about it, but also kinda don't gel with it entirely. |

Damn. It's exceedingly rare that the production on an album outright ruins it for me, but I'm finding this one borderline unlistenable. Hyper-****ing-compressed, cold and plasticky tones (the drum set sounds just awful especially) and just so much fuzz and noise that makes it sound like it's being played loud on a cell phone. Just everything has been made to sound as annoying as possible.
My ears are protesting very hard here, so I'm having a difficult time being fair to the musical ideas going on behind the production/mixing on this album. I get the feeling that I wouldn't be all that into this even if it sounded good. Seems very schizo in the songwriting department. |
