Your "Best of 2018" So Far
 

What's your loose list right now? I've got a couple that I can't see moving at all at the top, but the bottom of my list is full of potential changes. I've listened to a few albums recently (SUMAC's, for instance) that I believe will end up on my list, but I'm going to need them to digest a little before I make that decision. And this is a VERY loose order. As in, it's not really ordered at all, I'm just listing them.

1. Imperial Triumphant - Vile Luxury (experimental, extreme jazz, blackened death metal)

2. Jeff Rosenstock - POST- (pop punk, indie)

3. Mortuous - Through Wilderness (death ****ing metal)

4. Messa - Feast For Water (doom metal, drone, ambient, post-metal)

5. Thou - Magus (also, their other EPs from the year, which I'm just throwing in with the album) (sludge metal, dark ambient, black metal, industrial, folk, grunge, a whole lot of other ****ing genres)

6. Armand Hammer - Paraffin (experimental hip hop)

7. Neckbeard Deathcamp - White Nationalism is For Basement Dwelling Losers (noise, black metal, RABM)

8. Portal - Ion (experimental death metal)

9. John Coltrane - Both Directions at Once (jazz from one of the best musicians in human history, don't @ me cause it's not "new" music)

10. Tomb Mold - Manor of Infinite Forms (death metal from the pits of some cosmic swamp)

STUFF THAT MAY END UP ON THIS LIST AFTER A FIGHT TO THE DEATH WITH THE CURRENT ALBUMS:

SUMAC - Love in Shadow (post-sludge, free jazz???)

There's more that are floating around as possibilities, but this is a "gut feeling" list.

Vile Luxury is definitely a highlight. I'm waiting til December to start my next list. :wave:

Also, youtube playlist gave me Khruangbin's Maria Tambien next which is actually a really good match. Damn these youtube algorithms be gettin' scary.

I haven't even begun to listen to enough 2018 releases but already know this is the same for me.
