Hipsters are originally the white kids that would go to jazz clubs back in the day when segregation was still a thing and jazz was predominately black.

Now it's meant to be the music nerds that get boners at obscure art and cultures or anything that challenges the norm.

I know what you mean as they're a bit "serious business" but I suspect they have plenty of fun with music, they just don't get into the trashy fun afaik. At the very least they dismiss music based on idiosyncratic taste and not boorish elitism. And even rostasi has had good things to say about at least one ICP track so I doubt he's just a snob.

There use to be time when rostasi use to talk to me in plug.dj. The room has slow down considerably and we never cross paths anymore. I remember one time I thought I would test how much he knows so I played Instant Death by Eddie Harris. He not only knew the song he personally knew Eddie Harris and him over his house! That blew my mind.

Besides Jazz musicians he also knew people in the Punk scene as well. He's a wealth of music knowledge and an interesting storyteller if you can him to talk to you.
