Don't slam the door on the Album Club just yet. Listen to Details, you might get another chance of getting something out of it. I said 'chance' being aware of the probability you might not like it. However there is still a possibility you might like it too.

Yeah, that was a good album, except for the final song which was outrageously vulgar. Details ends on a much more classier note than Broken English though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think the whole album is good. Maybe you have to be in the right mood for it?

Gave this one a listen this evening, just because.

The opening track has a really juicy bassline going for it and an overall vibe - with the singer's voice and everything - that was leaving me hopeful.

While I didn't think this album was bad by any means, it really wore out it's welcome after a while. The songs are pretty cookie cutter most of the time and I'm reminded of a number of acts from the same time. There's some attempt to vary these tracks sonically, but the arrangements feel somewhat shallow and the overall song progressions stick to a fairly repetitive template. Generally, the last minute of each of these songs has a feeling of treading water. I would have liked some more creative chord progressions and/or melodies. The singer has a nice, sweet, but unspectacular voice that lacks dimension and nuance.

A few moments made my ears perk up. Mostly, I experienced this album as being nice but forgettable. Check out "Let Go" or "Psychobabble". They had a bit more going for them in terms of musical detail than most tracks here did.

I'm surprised to see Guy Sigsworth as a co-writer on a lot of this: he was so good with Seal and Bjork, whereas on this album I feel the songwriting is lacking more often than not. That being said, good hooks do shine through now and then: 'Must Be Dreaming' is nice early 00's pop, 'Let Go' is a solid opener and 'Flicks' covers a variety of territory that I enjoy (walks the trip-hop / mainstream pop line pretty well). The whole album might grow on me more as time goes on, but I certainly didn't dislike it after a few spins.

Solid 6.5 out of 10 here.

I'm waiting for TH to return before I dive into the album club again.
