I used to work at a grocery store for like 5 years during high school and early uni but never really got "sick" of the song cycles

even now I listen to a large amount of music on my own time, so going out and hearing "Don't Stop Believing" etc. in a store or at a bar still doesn't bother me much. the small doses are fine imo and it's pretty easy to ignore them anyway

Starting to get sick of it? I’ve been sick of it for a long time.

Not necessarily the stuff I listen to (though, even some of that I'm starting to give a long overdue rest), but all the "hits" you hear when you go into the supermarket. Or a department store. Or a coffee shop, or any other public place where they play music (but especially the supermarket). Pop/rock from the 60's through the 80's, invariably. I mean, how many bloody times do people want to listen to Journey's Don't Stop Believing before they get sick of it? Or Careless Whisper by Wham! I mean, some of this stuff isn't really good enough to still be playing 30-40 afterwards anyway, IMO, but it gets relentlessly played and played and played, anyway. Are they still gonna be playing this stuff in the supermarket 50 years from now?

When are they gonna give this stuff a bloody rest?? Enough already. I'm starting to long for the days when they played elevator music in the supermarket. Or, nothing at all. Heck, I can't even remember what, if anything, they played in supermarkets when I was growing up - I think maybe they played nothing at all.
I didn't know supermarkets had elevators, but anyway I have exactly what you're looking for:

Worse than numetal, or goofy white rappers, is cliche and overdone dubstep. The true sign of a primitive life form.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

They don't play any of those in the supermarket, but if they did...

It's because they usually lack substance (definitely not all, but many). Very similar to extremely shallow people: It can be okay a first, then it shifts to being tolerable, and eventually you just want to completely destroy it. Radio will just keep doing that, it's been doing that for YEARS. That's why I stopped listening to the radio. I mostly have selective hearing (thankfully) so I can easily tune out in-store soundtracks...unless it's at my job. In that case, nobody's ever given me **** for just a single earbud in so long as I keep the volume low enough to be able to hear my surroundings and not disturb customers.
