What Sucks About This Genre: Synthpop Edition

A genre I used to hate because it "wasn't rock" and "synthesisers aren't real instruments". :rolleyes: Listening to quite a lot of it now, as it happens.

I like this genre.

I'm not entirely sure about how much of my music falls under this genre, but some of it must be synth pop. At least Depeche Mode are for sure.

I guess some of the bands go for that cold and sterile feel to the point of them just being kind of lacking in energy, but I don't really have any beef with the genre. Need to listen to more, probably.

And Depeche Mode are awesome.

I'm sure theirs some synth pop in my repertoire, but nothing comes to mind.

Their 2018 album on the other hand might be the biggest stinker of the year that I’ve heard, utterly terrible outside of a track or two

Forgot about Prince. There must be quite a few songs in his enormous catalogue that qualify as synth pop.

My number one album of 2016 was a straight up synth pop record, so when its good its reallllly good.
