Default What Sucks About This Genre: Country Music Edition

And there you have it.

Seriously, some people had such a problem with my introductory post on the hip-hop thread that I'm saying nothing for now. You guys tell me, what sucks about this old and venerated genre?

Note: as MicShaz was getting a little confused with the polling system, (and he probably wasn't the only one) I've made the options clearer now. Pardners.

Oh great, now I guess you don't like white people either.

There's a lot of things I don't like about it; at least the parts where they pretend to be patriotic and very American (read: Toby Keith). On the other hand, any music that can house the likes of Johnny Cash and the more recent topical artists like Steve Earle and Todd Snider can't all be bad. So I'll give it a three.

(Note: That was addressing the OP, not you Frown)

the worst part of country music is ppl who say “i hate country music except for johnny cash”

basically means i heard walk the line once and it’s the only country song recorded before 2014 that i’m familiar with

I used to say that to be honest, but then I discovered I really like vintage country like Hank Williams and some of Webb Pierce and Kitty Wells. And I really do like alt-country with Earle, Snider, and Neko Case among others. One of the positive things about country music is its brutal honesty. People laugh at their songs about divorce and such, but there is something heartfelt and honest about songs like that. Keep me away from that steel pedal guitar though

Well, with the way Troll worded it, I guess I have to go 2. It isn't fair simply to say, meh , I like some artists (yawn).

A genre where all songs apparently sound exactly the same.

I'll PayPal you $15 to buy a Hank Williams album and shut up.
