Yeah, I admit Troll could have worded his OP a little better. It was pretty white of him. Maybe this will teach him not to go overboard with these type of threads.

PS- I bet there are some black people who don't like hip hop either. Just sayin'
Never said that, though it's definitely something people can improve on.

When I took my first ever IAT in college, it reported that I had an implicit bias towards light-colored skin over dark-colored skin. I wasn't shocked and it didn't make me feel upset or embarrassed, but I took note of it and tried to think about it more often. College and adult life has since immersed me more in other cultures outside of my cozy little white suburban bubble, and now I feel like I'm better about those things. I took an IAT an hour ago and it reported that I show zero bias now, so clearly I've improved the way my mind implicitly thinks about people. Others can do that too.

Or you just have better motor skills now.

You can't outsmart Harvard, sorry. Motor skills have nothing to do with the test, it compares your reaction times between two categories.

An answer to a question similar to yours from the IAT FAQ:

Quote:
Could the result be a function of handedness or hand-eye coordination?
There is no evidence that handedness influences IAT scores. When thinking about the influence of hand-eye coordination or cognitive ability, keep in mind how the test works. In a gay-straight IAT we measure how long it takes people to categorize items when Gay People + Good / Straight people + Bad are paired together versus when Straight People + Good / Gay people + Bad are paired together. People who have better hand-eye coordination or higher cognitive ability might be generally faster to respond, but there is no reason to think that they would be faster in one category pairing versus the other. For this reason we do not think that hand-eye coordination will influence IAT scores.

Got a source that isn't from the brochure?

You don't think that you can improve on your ability to do the test?

Always good to trust an Ivy League source

Yeah, it said I had a moderate automatic preference for European Americans. That makes sense since I'm white. It didn't suggest I hated blacks. Like I said, we all have a bias. What we all have to do is work on the biases. It doesn't mean we're bad people.

And it still has nothing to do with being meh about hip hop.

Great. Nobody cares. Let's move on.

It’s not meant to be something you practice and get better at, I think that defeats the whole purpose of the test. No one’s measuring their abilities, you take it to find out something about yourself you may not have already known

You could “improve” at just about any test in the field of Psychology unless you’re using EEG to measure brain activity or something. Kind of invalidates the entire field of social psychology to think of things that way, though it’s hard to deny that social psychology is perhaps the least provable/scientific of any of the major sciences

I voted 3 on the poll. When it's good it's good and when it's bad it's appalling, but even a lot of the albums I do like suffer from the things I mentioned so I think 3 is about fair.
