The Album Club: "Abominog" by Uriah Heep

On we go to round eight, and it's my pick again. You know what to do at this stage so, you know, do it. |
Uriah Heep- Abominog (1982)
Best Tracks: Too Scared To Run, Chasing Shadows, Prisoners Weakest Tracks: Hot Night in a Cold Town, Running All Night (With the Lion) I do have some familiarity with this band as they had a hit with Easy Living in 1972. I also remember really liking The Magician’s Birthday. It starts off in kind of a headbanging fashion and Chasing Shadows sounds like vintage Heep. It tails off though and begins to sound like the typical metal fare of the early Eighties. Hot Night in particular sounds like it could have been recorded by Loverboy. That may be a little extreme but basically, outside of the first two tracks in particular, they sound like just about any metal band of the period trying to score their big hit. It could be worse though. At least they don’t sound like Motley Crue (bat attack pending :D) 5/10 (the Word has spoken :D) |

You kind of named my favourite and least favourite tracks too. :thumb: |
You don't like the Crue?
|
It’s on par with most radio metal from the 80’s and maybe a little quicker on the draw.
I didn’t really feel pulled into the guitar riffs or the choruses but that doesn’t mean they’re not good Kind of middle of the road It’s a band I should probably know more about but they never got my balls tingling. I clicked liked it but on a 5 star system I would probably go 2 1/2 before grade inflation Cool pick trolls |

I had the worst hangover of my life because of the Crue. If they bought a school bus they could have passed as the heavy metal version of the Partridge Family. You can listen to Girls Girls Girls alongside Metal Machine Music and not being able to tell the difference. Otherwise, I like them a lot  NOTE TO BAT: Ori paid me to say that :D |
The album cover made me expect the worst music ever. But it's allright so far.

Listen to their seventies material, Hawk, especially The Magician's Birthday. You'll gain a bigger appreciation of them, I think.
