Now come on. El Dorado is really prog. All those references to medieval times, the orchestra, the dark voices talking about, well, El Dorado?

Ok, I'd have said so too, but I googled it because I was in doubt and it seems like people are fighting over whether Elo are prog at all. Premier prog website progarchives.com says... no?!

They're certainly not a prog band, and most progheads would sniff in disgust if you mentioned them, kind of like Supertramp. But they definitely have prog elements. After all, side three of Out of the Blue is taken up by one long four-movement suite. They interpreted Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King." They use cellos and violins. None of which means they are a prog band, but coupled with some of the lyrical material, there are definitely some prog leanings in there.

And, um, progarchives has them as "crossover prog", so I'm not sure where you're getting that from...

That's like saying the Psychedelic Beatles were prog. If you call ELO prog, you're kind of watering down the whole genre. ELO's a great classical rock band, but they're not prog.

I don't know either. I'm pretty sure someone said so on a forum when I googled the question. They might have changed their opinion since, or maybe "crossover prog" is seen as a kind of put-down, since it's kinda like saying "not real prog".

Check. I did not say ELO were prog. I said that album was. And it is. Read my later comment, which explains my position on the band more.

They're space rock, not prog.
