And here we are with album four in the Cure's discography. Love It? Hate It? Inquiring Minds want to know.

This is a pretty good album, which I think may end up being slightly overrated here. I think The Cure as a whole get more attention than they deserve. It's my opinion that they made one really noteworthy album, which we'll be getting to in a few. However, this is Pornography I'm talking about. One Hundred Years and the title tracks are the best things on here, the former because it's so catchy, and the latter for everything that makes it not catchy. Everything in between is somewhere in between these two tracks. Both not catchy enough to make a big impact, and not weird enough to make a big impact. It's all solid tracks, and it's all entertaining, but in terms of really getting out there and making a statement, The Cure have failed IMO. So, 8/10, great effort, good stuff, but not amazing (in fact I believe I prefer Seventeen Seconds).

Going back to my Album Club MO from this point on

Best Tracks- One Hundred Years, The Hanging Garden

Weakest Tracks- The Figurehead, Pornography

Again another solid album. It starts off like gangbusters and I was prepared to say this is my favorite Cure to date, but then it seems to tail off a little. The theme remains dark and the moodiness adds to the atmosphere. In fairness, the weakest tracks really aren’t that weak though Pornography seems a little, um, avant garde. Overall, their best album since Three Imaginary Boys. Not a ten, but I like it a lot.

8/10 (The Word has spoken :D)

I would argue ideas can get stale even within a single song. The first time I hear it it's a really cool riff, the second time it's great still, but after five minutes it's just another riff. Everything originally exciting about it was drained away by the repetition. And when it didn't even sound that great to my ears in the first place, it can even get a bit annoying. Keep in mind, there are ways of slightly changing a riff so that it stays interesting. Adding another layer of harmony or increasing volume or adding more instruments or taking away instruments. Unless the riff itself is really eerie and strange (such as the title track) tension doesn't mount but simply fizzles until it runs out.

"The Hanging Garden" is the only song on the album that keeps it from being a "meh" for me. Other than that, the album bores me.

6/10
