Interest Check: The MB Members Music Week Showcase
Here's yet another idea from the mind that brought you ... well, it's not important what I brought you, what threads sunk or were laughed off the site. The point is, this might actually be good. Maybe.
The proposal is that for one week, one particular member is allowed and encouraged to post his or her favourite music exclusively, talk about it, show us what they listen to and what they like. During that one week, nobody else should be able to post music in the thread, unless it complements the music posted by the active member. For example: elphenor is the active member and posts, say, The Tubes, and Frownland says "that's dope, check out these" and posts a similar band. Well kind of. We'll work it out. The point is that the active member should have the lion's share of the music posting, and everyone else should be commenting on it, and maybe even listening to it. For that week, that member has control, so you have basically a "What Are You Listening To Now?" thread, but concentrating on only one member. Why? Well, I find that some people here may not get to post or show us what kind of music they're interested in, often from a fear of it being ignored, or lost among the slew of postings in the usual threads. This would be a chance for those who don't usually post their music to do so, and hopefully get some feedback, be it positive or negative. Of course, nothing is stopping those who bombard the forum with music joining up either. No real rules, you'll be glad to hear, Batty. First signup goes first and so on, and I'm prepared to exempt myself, so that this doesn't just come across as an excuse to post my own music. So, is anyone interested? |
A week long homework assignment where I'm basically just talking to myself? No thanks.
|
We barely talk about each others albums in the forum member showcase thread. This probaby won't help. Good idea. But I don't see many people posting about their albums.

One of these days I'd like to do a Beatles thread or even a Garage Rock one. I'm holding off on the Beatles in case Pet Sounds would come back (we were going to do a joint Beatles project). Yeah, I'd be interested.
|
I wouldn't look forward to doing a week long exercise of being ignored and/or mocked for whatever music I'd choose to talk about. Sounds like a miserable time. Nice try though.

Today, I woke up and did some exercises while listening to Private Idaho and Strobe Light by The B-52s. I'm about to listen to Baka Guy by Shonen Knife. Maybe I'll go nuts and spin Flying Jelly Attack, too.

Oh ****, I listened to Missing Persons instead. #Wildcard

I like the idea of talking about myself for a week straight but I don't like the idea of listening to other people talking about themselves.

TFW themed thread series have become stale.
|
Listened to some birds chirping outside. 4/10, not enough guitar.
|
What I'd like is some kind of thread where there's some actualy concentrated talk about a specific album going on. The Album Club is a perfect idea, but it's been deflating recently in this really disappointing manner. I'm wondering if a Song Club (1 song per week in stead of an album, otherwise same rules) would get anywhere. The Album Club has one foot in the grave, clearly. It had an impressive run - that's something allright - but these last few albums have been mostly ignored and the rules that were meant to encourage participation have failed.

Listening to MicShazam whining. 3/10, bassist needs to be mixed louder.
|
I'm just saying it like it is. I'm gonna shut up now and let it die.

Probably not. Nothing ever seems to generate any interest here :( |
What're you guys talking about? I think Ori week is going great so far.
Listened to some turtles outside going at it. 3/10 just not my thing. Jguy probably would've appreciated it, though. |

if people wanna post about music they listen to then, well, they can. It's literally the name of the website. Why make the same thread over and over
what's next, "What Are You Not Listening to Right Now?" |
How about we start a "What Are You Not Listening to Right Now II?"?
|
Actually, the name of the website refers to conversation about music. Not talking to a wall.

There are no more threads to make; not about music anyway. It's all been done. Now we can all talk about Batlord's underwear. I don't think anyone's made a thread about that yet.

We're looking for a drummer. The last one blew up when he was playing with Spinal Tap. |

I could make like 6 original threads right now.

I'm sure a thread about making original threads has already been done.

Hah! Don't worry: when I saw 36 replies I said, right, they hate it. You do. Fine. I couldn't care less. Just an idea. However, to respond to a few comments:

Actually, does everyone want to keep it going? If you're all fed up, let me know and I'll just shut it down. Quote:

Fine. Whatever. Just thought I'd ask the question. Carry on. https://gifimage.net/wp-content/uplo...curr-gif-2.gif |
TH, might be a good idea to just focus on the projects you currently have going instead of trying to do more.
