I don’t necessarily agree at least when it comes to their earlier work but regardless there are other examples in this thread of that
Like imo Nightwish and Pearl Jam are pretty awful, but they’ve certainly influenced a lot of bands

Really, any great band has likely spawned a lot of imitator crap. How many bands try to sound like the Rolling Stones or Velvet Underground? How many are actually good? The Beatles pretty much spawned the Power Pop movement and there are some godawful bands in that genre.
