MB Artist Classics: The Cure - "Seventeen Seconds"

This is the one I remember, and I know I loved it. If memory serves, it's all instrumental. Does memory serve? Memory does not serve. Doesn't matter; it's a great album and I know I was quite young when I heard it (like, eighteen or so) so I'm looking forward to hopefully renewing my acquaintance with it. |
This was the first Cure album I bought and, except for Play For Today and Seventeen Seconds, I really couldn't get into it. Certainly a good album and I'll probably like this and Three Imaginary Boys a little better than later material where the singles seem to really outshine the album cuts. I thought Three Imaginary Boys was a bit better which is why I give this album a seven, albeit a very solid one. (Favorite tracks: Play For Today and Seventeen Seconds).
7.5/10 (The Word has spoken :D) PS for Trollheart- For someone who is complaining that no one is posting here, we have yet to see a review from you. Hint... hint... :D |
I bet this is Frown's favorite album by The Cure (perhaps Pornography instead). Its highly experimental mid-section I can see appealing to him. Now I hadn't listened to this album before today, and my feelings on an album often change after repeated listens, but as of now, this album is pretty great. A lot more of that classic Cure sound than the previous album, a little better songwriting. Some keys finally, to differentiate this fledgeling band from the majority of the post-punk/new wave crowd.
The atmospheres created on this album are really solid, and the tunes often have some driving beats and engaging melodies to back them up, so gonna have to go 8/10 on this one. Thanks, Robert! |
The Cure had a much different vibe going with this album. Very different from their debut which sounds like a singles collection in comparison. Moody and dark, the songs here fit together well from start to finish, giving it the aura of a concept album.
A good album that I probably would've given a 9/10 or higher back in 1980 but it's lost a bit of its impact on me since I was in my late teens and early twenties. 7/10 |
This album has a powerful and legendary mystique
