And so we come to the end. Sadly, literally. Two days after its release Bowie died and departed this world way too early. But he left a hell of a body of work behind him, a true legacy of a shining star, and this was his crowning achievement. Anyone who gives this less than 5/5 is a ****.

This is obviously a 5.

The run up to the release with the reports on the album saying it was weird and dark, felt like it was going to be a special release. Two videos dropped which I tried to avoid but did see before the release. Pre ordered album and got it in the post a day or two before he died.

Not going to review the album too much because we've all heard it and know what it sounds like. It is dark, jazzy, sad and beautiful. Big Dave said he wanted to write a play and make an album with a jazz band and this was him doing that before he died.

The most emotional listening experience I have had and will ever have with an album. Never expected to hear new music and he drops one more classic for the fans. RIP Dave.

I think we all loved the album, given that we had thought we had heard the last of him with The Next Day. His death, especially so soon after the album's release, of course changed our perception of it, and I would doubt anyone was willing to find fault with it after that. Luckily, that would have been impossible, as it is faultless.

I think one of the most chilling and moving things I've witnessed in a long time is the video for "Lazarus": a man, aware he is dying, singing of dying, and making of his death one final, unassailable piece of unique art. Absolute legend, and working right up to the very end.

Sometimes, very occasionally, the last album an artist makes gets what might be undeserving praise, coloured by the feeling that we will never hear from him, her or them again. But that's not the case here. Yes, it gets more praise than probably it would have Bowie lived, but even so, all the praise it gets is completely deserved. A true Bowie classic.

Agreed, a classic.
Blackstar was getting 5* reviews when Dave was still alive.

Big hitters of this forum even said it was as good as the Berlin Trilogy in the Blackstar thread. I believe Grindy said it was actually better. This was before he died btw.

Lazarus is still a fantastic video and song. I love every song on this album too.
