MB Bowie Classics: "The Next Day"
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...e_Next_Day.png
The album that saw Bowie return triumphantly after what seemed like ten years in the wilderness, and which turned out to be the penultimate album he would ever record. Sadly, at this point, he had barely three years left on this planet. :( |
Goddamn it, I forgot what a ****ing amazing album this is.
Here, I said it better than I ever could... The Next Day 5/5 only cos I can't score it higher. Damn! |
Third time in a Row Bowie is bringing an album of near flawless songs and vibrant performances to the table. There are so many great songs on this album! "Love is Lost" might just be among my handful favorite tracks of Bowie's entire career. I very much appreciate Bowie's vocal performances on this album all the way through and there is not a bad thing I can say about the musicianship, arrangements, etc.
Even if Blackstar doesn't turn out to be as good, I think that Bowie more than redeemed himself with this late career run of great albums. "Hours" and those 80's dance albums are easily forgiven and forgotten at this point. 5/5 |
This was a great return.
Still remember how excited I was when the single dropped. Never thought he would release another album. The first single is one of the weakest songs on the record I think but even that is pretty good. Probably the right choice for a lead single. Voted 5. Really good album and return to form for Dave :) |
One of the better albums Bowie released after "Let's Dance" but, like most of those albums, there weren't any memorable songs that stood out and stayed with me afterwards.
Good but not great. 3/5 |
I guess it's all right. I mildly enjoyed it while listening, but nothing grabbed me, and I don't want to go back to it.

Finally, my first five since Lodger. Yes, this album is nearly flawless. It won't be as good as Blackstar but it's certainly his best since the Ziggy Stardust days. Favorite songs are Valentine's Day, I'd Rather Be High, How Does the Grass Grow, and a great finish with Heat. Definitely a five, not quite a ten, but, oh, so close.
9.5/10 (The Word has spoken :D) |
Not the strongest album. Some of the tracks make me cringe a bit but overall not the worst album. 3/5

Honestly think it's a great album.
