Yeah, I think he's just making an arbitrary comparison because they both happen to be female vocalists, even if their styles are completely different. If one of them had a penis, even if they still had the same voice, there'd be literally nothing similar between them, beyond the vague designations of "Art Rock" and "Dance" that include everything from ELO to Talking Heads.

Therefore Grace Slick = Petula Clark, Britney Spears = Nirvana, and The Rolling Stones = The Beach Boys.
Yeh, out of Kate Bush's 8+ albums, she has one (Hounds of Love) that thoroughly embraced the majesty of the '80s, and another (The Dreaming) that played with the sound and turned it on its head. If you actually bothered to listen to The Dreaming, or any other of her albums, even Hounds of Love, you'd realize how weird and pointless this comparison you're dragging out is.

Like, I can't actually believe that you listened to the song The Dreaming and thought 'Hm, what a quaint '80s dance pop number.'

Was Kate Bush explicitly an '80s pop machine?
My point, which I guess you missed, was that being sonically tied to a decade doesn't neccesarily mean that you automatically sound comparable to every other popular musician of that decade. So this "But Kate Bush has an '80sy sound, therefore No Wave Funk" stuff is not only not true, because only three of her albums were even released in the 80s anyway, but also pointless. Writing off an entire artist because like maybe 10% of their work is sort of in a similar vein to another artist is hilariously arbitrary. Quote:
But in the end, here are the only questions that matter: Did you actually listen to the whole album, and did you like it?

And before you reply, I want you to really think about what you're saying here, that it's alright to write off Kate Bush's entire discography because she flirted with the '80s sound. Imagine someone writing off all of Bowie's work after hearing Let's Dance, and figuring that he was just a cut rate Prince.
Years from now, I'm gonna remind you that you once wrote off Kate Bush because Mambo Nassau existed.

But yeah, only The Hounds of Love sounds like "normal" 80's pop in any capacity. Never Forever sounds distinctly 70's and is filled with arty, melodic rock tunes. The Dreaming is just weird. Hounds of Love is fairly poppy and at times danceable. But let's not forget tracks like "Trapped Under Ice", "Mother Stands For Comfort", "And Dream Of Sheep" and "Waking the Witch". The Sensual World is very laid back, more mature, kind of moody and slightly adult contemporary in feel. Not exactly right for a night at the club. |

Uh, yes it was. You came in, said you'd never choose to listen to Kate Bush, and then told us to listen to Lizzy Mercier Descloux instead. And when asked about why you didn't want to give Kate Bush a shot, you said it was because she sounded '80sy.
You literally admitted that you wrote off her whole discography because you thought she just did '80s pop. You're that guy that won't listen to David Bowie because of Let's Dance, Captain Beefheart because of Clear Spot, Peter Gabriel because of So, etc.
