MB Bowie Classics: "Heroes"
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...e_-_Heroes.png
Another classic album that just can't be ignored. Second in the Berlin Trilogy, and containing one of his most well-known songs in the title track. |
Great album.
Last track should have been taken off though. Good track, but doesn't fit with the album. Would have been better on Lodger. Voted 5 anyway as that's my only issue. |
Robert Fripp joins Bowie and Eno for the second album in the "Berlin Trilogy."
I gave this one a 3/5. Not quite as good as "Low" for me. A couple of songs ("Blackout" and "The Secret Life of Arabia") seem rather weak among the rest of the tracks on the album and "Sons of the Silent Age" (one of my favorite songs on the album) sounds like it might be a leftover song from the "Aladdin Sane" era. I agree with Fluff that the last track ("The Secret Life of Arabia") should've been left off. It just sounds like an out-of-place disco song here. |
As an album experience, this was a bit more up and down for me than Low. It's really good, but I think it's a bit more inconsistent. Plus the way they recorded the vocals frequently sounds less than great.
Some songs strike me as somewhat of a corny mess. I liked "Blackout" to some degree, but... It could have used another pass or two before it was ready for the album. Same goes for "V-2 Schneider". Still a very interesting and creative album. Quite enjoyable, but I'm going to give it a 4/5. It's a high 4, but a 4 none the less. _Previous ratings:__________________ (Rated on a scale relative to only Bowie's own discography, where 1 means the worst he's done and 5 means the best he's done.) I am pleased to see Mic's ratings generally fit with my own.
I have always thought the trio of Station to Station/Low/Heroes > Hunky Dory/Ziggy/Aladdin. Can't wait for Scary Monsters. An album I feel is not talked about enough. |
I'm quite unfamiliar with most albums after Lodger, so I don't actually have much of an idea of how their ratings will fall for me. Several of those albums could get anywhere from a 1 to a 5.

Wow,where are all the posts here?
Anyway, I gave the album a three, albeit a high three as it is better than Station to Station. Still, I look at this as Low Jr. Overall the album just doesn't do it for me despite the title track being probably my second favorite Bowie track next to Life On Mars. Favorite tracks are the aforementioned Heroes and Beauty and the Beast. I like Joe the Lion a lot too, but the rest of the album is kind of forgettable to me. So since I do like this better than Station To Station... 6.5/10- (The Word has spoken :D) |
Heroes is a pretty good album, but I always feel his Berlin stuff is overrated. Station to Station is the last 5/5 of his in the 70s IMO. Also missed the other threads so I'll just put these here:
Diamond Dogs, Low - 4/5 Aladdin Sane, Ziggy, Hunky Dory - 5/5 Other ones - don't care/5 |
