Well, there have been the odd ones: Moondog, Curtis ...

Frownland's hot takes: Adam F's Colours

Intro

A solid kickstart, very Miles influenced. 6.8/10

73

Carries forward the fusion, very slick. 7/10

Metropolis

Cool and spooky psychedelic start. Let's hope he doesn't **** it up. I **** with this beat and the keys. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come. Absolute banger. 8/10

Music in My Mind
Decent production, not a huge fan of the guitar, sax, or vocals though. Dig the fat bass and flute. 4/10

Jaxx

Sci-fi intro, very spacy. Bassy, glassy beat, kinda cliched but not bad. Vocal loops aren't really necessary but whatever. Gets pretty sick as it goes along and the beat gets busier. Overstays its welcome a bit. 6/10

Mother Earth
What is this, Korn? Because it's corny af. This would be nice if it was just ambient drones and drums. **** that sax. The beat at the end is slick save for the ****ing saxophone which bumps it up to a 3/10

The Tree Knows Everything (feat. Tracy Thorn)

Oh god what the ****. Too upbeat, hate the r&b elements or whatever the ****. Jfc. Cut this bull**** and stick to bangers. 1/10

Circles (album edit)

Pretty weak bassline over standard beats. Whatever. It improves a bit as it evolves. 3.5/10

Dirty Harry

Kinda dreamy, kinda funky pretty meh overall. 4/10

F Jam (feat. MC Conrad)

Tight MC. Production isn't that interesting overall though, the jazzy elements are just dull tbh. 4/10

Colours

Nah. 1/10

I really enjoyed some tracks, but overall it's meh. Some outright garbage on here man.

I called out the wah wah for being "cheezy." I didn't say the album altogether was "cheesy." In the final analysis this album didn't live up to the Ant hype.

I had forgotten that Vegas came out around the same time as this: I like Colours's hooks better and the dreaminess of atmospheric drum & bass has a very nostalgic appeal for me, but they are bedfellows in a way. Thanks for bringing it up.

But to be clear: Atmospheric Drum & Bass and Techno are very different from one another. This dead meme, for example. is techno.

This B-side from the Neon Genesis Evangelion OST is also techno.

jftr I am not saying I like Vegas is a better Bass n Drum album than Colours is. In the grand scheme of all things electronic music I like Vegas better. I guess the Tencho you posted (taken into consideration the whole history of Techno) by then evolved into something entirely different than what I think of it as. What Techno I like is probably more often describes as Electro. If you look at the whole family tree you can easily see how much territory it covers, and it's easy to understand how two people can be a fan of electronic music and never be on the same page about anything. I-F is a good example of what I prefer.

If you put DAMN by Kendrick Lamar there you would have won the day.

Well citing AllMusicGuide and multiple publications that gave it stellar reviews is in a way hyping the album and if you were referring to Coulors in this statement then imo this sounds like hype too:

I am not saying you can not tout your albums. I can see how that can be fun and all. However I don't see it, the bottom line is I don't get what everyone is raving about.
