Eurovision 2018

SInce there was no thread for the musical competition that everyone seems to hate but watch, here is one.

Sweden's entry. Great for those old MJ/Timberlake fans. It just screams to me "I am a privalaged kid from a wealthy family. Vote for me because my Mom won and my cousin is in Swedish House Maffia...ok..maybe it doesn't scream that. But it is in their somewhere between the lines and probably will get 12 points from some backwater eastern european country.

Me too! Me too! God no. This is the favored to win people! To me, I just get a hankering for chicken. Yes, I realize that I should be supporting this lady for what she represents but..it really isn't that great a song.

France. All you need is the dancing girls from a Robert Palmer video and the song is complete.

England. I like the chorus. That's about it. I realize you always get to go..but why can't England send someone really great for once. Like Sting or Coldplay. Or better yet, send them both and blow Eurovision out of the water. Because these tiring entries are just that..tiring.

Italy. Yes! Thought-provoking. I like this song! Let it win! Oh wait..Isreal is the favored entry and it...probably..will...win :(

Because Eurovision is either thought-provoking or like the Czech republic's entry featuring bubble-gum pop and a kid singing on a camel. I am just hoping he brings a bactrian camel to dance on..for the sheer silliness of it.

You should do a sweep for this. Get everyone to pick a country, whoever wins gets, I don't know, ten dollars? Maybe ten dollars worth of albums? I'll handle that. Might be fun, like we used to do with the World Cup in work. Hell, they don't even have to watch it, but it might make it a little more interesting.

The only problem is that there are not so many black horse winners in Eurovision. In this case, I really think that the bookies have it right in that Isreal is going to win. And that people think that by voting for this lady, they will in some way show their support for feminism and Me too! bah.

I don't mind putting up and buying 10 dollars worth of music, but I don't think I would bet on the winner, I would bet on who will most likely make the finals but come in last..that always seems to come as a shocker as there are so many crappy songs, it is hard to award the least amount of points to a country. And then there is always alliances which say "Sure, your song is crap but you are my friend" voting or "There is no way my country can afford this contest but you
guys still have money for food and a functional electrical grid, you take it". But sure, if there is enough interest, 10 dollars worth of music seems fair to the one who picks who will come in last of the ones that qualifies for the finals.

Oooh update: THe Czech entry got injured during the rehearsels and can't walk at the moment. Well, guess the camel will be coming.

No, no: in a pool you don't bet. You are given a team randomly. So people would just be told "You have Croatia" or "You have England" or whatever. No betting, no skill, no need for knowledge. Totally and completely random. That's the fun. So someone might get say Serbia and say oh man I've no chance, and they could end up winning it.

Anyway, it's just an idea; might possibly get a few more people interested. Maybe not.

Seems like fun. Ok. But should the pool be for the Winner of Eurovision or the loser who made it to the finals but came last?

(Hope you don't get Serbia..it'll make your ears bleed...but they got light-up drums so it balances out :) ).

The pool would or should only be organised when the finalists are chosen, and the winner is whoever wins the contest. Hope I don't get Ireland.

Sounds good. Hopefully the pool will consist of more than two .

It's a pity Ireland just didn't send Jedward again. They can't
really sing or dance but they're fun.

It's a pity Ireland can't send Jedward to Syria. Not to try to broker a peace agreement or anything, just to wander around until a drone strike happens to take them out. Man I would pay real money for that to happen!

Suggestion: do an "interest check" thread, see how many people, if any other than us, would be interested in doing this, before you sink too much time into it.

Wait a minute, people watch Eurovision unironically?

Lilja 05-02-2018 10:39 PM

I juse like how Jedward spontaneously jump all the time during their music...song going bad? Jump around alot and hopefully people will appreciate the jumping more than the song.

And of course people appreciate Eurovision. All these countries wouldn't sink their money year after year into a contest that no one like anymore? Right?
