It's not a gimmick though. I wouldn't like Dir En Grey if I didn't feel like they made it gel together into something that feels like a focused expression.

And people tell me what sucks about them. So it's working as intended. Doesn't mean I agree with everything said.

I should probably say something myself as well: They tend to over-reach in the studio, making it very hard for themselves to perform some of their tracks live. This is especially evident with their last album, Arche, many songs of which seem a lot weaker live than on the album. Especially the vocalist should consider dialing back things back on the next studio album so he will be able to pull it off live with some consistency.
