Either way Possessed have a solid comeback that's growing on me by the minute. I think I was being a little cynical about it cause I'd just listened to Exhorder's entire new album and was feeling kind of impatient by that point. I do not know why metal bands feel the need to write hour long albums. Doesn't it cost more to make longer albums? Does it actually help sales? 30-40 minutes is all you need if you're not some progressive or avant garde metal band.

I feel the same way about pretty much everything. It’s like in the digital age they don’t have to curate and make tough choices. I intentionally avoid bonus tracks, even with jazz. If I wanna hear the bonus tracks I listen to them separate from the record.

Hardcore is the real hero though. 15-25 minute albums like r u 4 srs?!

When I check the times 25-35 minutes is ideal

Those old Minutemen and Black Flag records at like 8 minutes and give you more than you’d expect in 45 are a blast. They’re not singles either. Those are full songs with verses and choruses

for me if an album is sick for its duration then it can be as long as it needs to be

That's a fine sentiment but the reality is most albums over 40 minutes could probably lose a song or two at least.

I'd rather an album to be too long as opposed to too short personally. Stuff can wear out its welcome but I think it's much better than leaving before satisfyingly welcoming it.

that possibly applies better to songs though

The more overlong an album is the closer it gets to being a compilation rather than a cohesive piece of art. Ruins the magic.
