People are usually very passionate about GNR, and I think this is one of the reasons it's cool to hate'em. I haven't seen one person who likes rock and heavy metal that doesn't enjoy a thing or two from them. Nowadays with all the hipster/indie movement people don't even bother to check it out, for real. It's really annoying. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTBqXdg_dOY |

You know Nick, I think the reason you get a lot of hate on this message board isn't because of your music opinions but rather because you back up your arguments with things like "everyone does this" or "every single person who likes A likes B" or "I've seen a few people do this so everyone does this".
You're like that guy that says something like "You know they say half and half cause cancer." and we're all like "who the f*ck is 'they'?" and you're like "oh, well, my friend Bob told me that". Stop stating things like "People are usually very passionate about GNR" because you're really talking about your seven friends down at the bar. It's annoying the sh*t out of me. |

What's closer to the truth is that, while many people may be into them (they have their fans of course and were as you say at one time huge, so nobody's denying that, but I think now their time has definitely passed) most people like a few songs, maybe an album or two but in general are NOT passionate about them. Most will say "Oh GNR? Yeah: "Sweet Child", "Paradise City", "Live and Let Die", that band with your man who wears the bandanna and the one with the guitarist with the top hat, Slush or something?"
THAT's what, in general, the perception of GNR is, here in the 21st century. They were a decent band, but they weren't the Second Coming, and they are over now, so really, to keep touting how great they were just shows us all how you refuse to live in the present and are like a hermit, muttering and growling in your cave about "the good old days of metal" and snapping and biting at anyone who comes near.

You know now that I'm on the level Maybe it would be better just to have a pie? But I need spice in my life today And eating pies is so very gay And if I don't have chilli I'll probably break down and cry. Oh oh-oh-oh sweet chilli of mine! Woh-oh-oh-oh sweet chilli of mine! Where is the john Where is the john Where is the john NOW?

Trollheart i would appreciate your opinion on this. KISS or Aerosmith.I love both. Aerosmith is great, I've got all their albums.
When I think of Aerosmith I think of the version that defined hard rock in the 1970s. Aerosmith had the best songs, but Kiss wins hands down as a live act. I give the nod to Aerosmith as far as studio output but not by a large margin. Live albums Kiss wins handily. Live in person Kiss wins handily. |
