God I hate it when metal bands try to sound as good as other metal bands they like. Sad!

Unless the next generation of heavy metal musicians have something NEW! to offer the genre it's going to become a thing of the past.

The metal we hear today has no distinct qualities. It's just this band trying to be as good as all the other bands, and so they end up sounding almost the same. There's no creativity involved. This saddens me to see metal die. I want to be able to enjoy newer music. But I can't unless new bands actually offer something original.
You're complaining about the lack of creativity and diversity in modern metal in comparison to ****ing hair bands? Bruh, I loves me some glam metal, but the talent pool is a kiddie pool, and after the top tier it basically becomes a dirty alley full of homeless people all mumbling the same incoherent conspiracy theories. Why don't you quit making excuses and just admit that you're a puss who can't handle death metal.

So whether or not it's making the top 40 charts is what we're talking about? Metal seems to be thriving, radio play or not. There are tours and festivals all over the place, all the time.

etc. etc. etc.

Most members in here could provide much, much more in terms of counters to your view. I mean, if you insist on ignoring everything new going on, then yeah, there's nothing new or interesting or good going on.

EDIT: More links of this and that...

Waltari
Jinjer

[QUOTE=The Batlord;1937080]You sound like you have very shallow taste in music. Plenty of metal after grunge hit.

And do not sully the name of Britney with your heathen tongue.[/Q In my opinion, most modern music sucks, so I fully admit to being stuck in the past when it comes to what I listen to. Let’s be honest, if Kurt Cobain hadn’t killed himself, Nirvana wouldn’t be nearly as popular as they still are today.

WHO CARES!?!? Why do you care?

Sex Pistols wouldn't be as popular as they are if Sid Vicious didn't die in the way he did. You can say this about dozens or artists. It changes and means nothing!

Then you need to listen to more modern music. People didn't just magically forget how to make music. If your idea of great music is defined by mainstream metal from the 80s then you were always a lazy music fan. You should get off your ass and start digging or **** off and accept that you never had an opinion worth hearing in the first place.

Here. Have this. It was made after grunge. And it should be everything you were looking for all these years.

The Sex Pistols were highly influential musically before Sid ever killed himself or even joined the band, and their notoriety existed from instances like "God Save the Queen" to Johnny Rotten's interviews before the suicide. They would have been remembered with or without Sid Vicious.

I don't even know why other bands bother trying when Hammerfall exist.

I think I only need five power metal bands at this point, and HammerFall are probably two of them.

Have this though. It's like NWOBHM for the modern age and one of the best trad heavy metal albums ever. Like that NWOBHM band who wasn't quite as good as Maiden and couldn't get the money for good production but they just so happened to exist in the 2000's when you didn't have to have a mainstream record deal to have production that didn't sound like it was made in a garage. And throw in some Mercyful Fate atmospherics in there to make them worth listening to on their own merits rather than just a nostalgia kick.

Honestly he's a side story as far as I've ever known. He was the guy who joined when their real bassist and main songwriter quit, and was just kind of a live sideshow. As far as I've ever heard the Sex Pistols stopped being a band of actual musical note when Glen Matlock left and just became a punk meme. Which I guess lends some credence to blank's claim, but they didn't need the meme to go down in rock history.
