The only 2018 album I've bought so far:

Anne-Marie - Speak Your Mind

On one hand, it's not exactly the most original album. It's pretty much a bunch of songs in variations of a very specific contemporary pop sound that will seem very familiar to anyone who hasn't lived in Tibet with no wi-fi for the last 5-10 years.

On the other hand, I feel like these songs are quite solid in a very unassuming way. Very strong, even. Not original, but perhaps one of the ultimate takes on this specific sound.

Basically, I think it's really good contemporary pop.

Sonido Gallo Negro - Mambo Cósmico (2018)

The new album from "Sonido Gallo Negro" (Black Rooster Sound) from Mexico City, Mexico. Psychedelic cumbia for the soul.

I saw one of the tags describe it as "twee". That was enough for me.

Metal In Opposition they call it; to me, it is polystylist metal, free metal, space metal — krautmetal. Whether from Germany or not, Qualeaceans play the most radical brand of metal, ever. The ensemble draw on every single form of extremity in music, hammering out their sonic tower as high as it gets, yet ichorous, like a figure in a Dali painting. Their insane musical outlet encircles noise music, free jazz, psychedelia, musique concrète, aleatory, texture, multitempo, improvisation, the use of numerous additional instruments (e.g. hammered dulcimer, violin, prepared guitar, recorder, tanbur, harmonica...), and manipulations of the tuning during a single piece.
all that cool stuff said, the vocals are kind of whack and/or weak

Wasn't feeling on this when released, but coming back to it reinforces my thoughts that Ought is without a doubt one of the best bands this decade. Easily. They tone things back a bit and really hone in on dat post-punk sound and arguably has made their best record so far.
