The Album Club: "Nuevo Dia" by Lole y Manuel
http://www.musicktorrent.com/images/articles/8/8016.jpg
After all the shenanigans of the last week, we're back here with the Album Club albums and round five ends with a late entry from Frownland. Vote, discuss, debate, review and talk about it here. |
I looked on YouTube, and I didn't see a whole album nor a playlist. However the album is on Spotify.
After all the drama that goes into these things, I am afraid to state an opinion anymore. (So, I guess) the best way to describe my sentiments towards this album is through an analogy: Paco Peña:Lole y Manuel::John Coltrane:Billy Childs (& guess singers) Where I am a Paco Peña and John Coltrane fan, and in my opinion they are the pinnacle in their respective genres. So the question remains does this album blows my socks off? I would say quite emphatically 'no.' However it doesn't mean I hates it. edit: Thanks for sharing Frownland. I imagine I will listen to this album again, and look for other music by them. |

EDIT: I mean, there was that business with Rubber Soul and such, but that didn't have anything to do with any disagreement about the music. It could have happened in any other thread. |
I agree. Any "drama" being created here seems to be down to Neapolitan himself, who seems to keep taking personal insult if everyone doesn't fall over themselves praising his albums. Got to take the rough with the smooth, and there has been some very rough with my albums! And probably will continue to be so.

I guess this is technically the 2nd flamingo album we've gotten here in duh club, but this one is a bit older and has a different atmosphere. There's an almost ritualistic melodic progression running through 'Bulerías de la Luna', for example, that reminds me more of oud music out of the Middle East. But that's obviously the point: this is one very progressive flamingo.
I voted like. Let's say 7.5 out of 10. |
I'm listening to it now, but all I can say is that I hope there are some instrumentals, because the guitar is great but that voice? No me gusta! :yikes: I guess it's the flamenco style, but I don't enjoy that shouted, wailing sort of harsh vocal. We'll see how it goes, but this may be a struggle.
