(Odds on Trollheart remaining a pussy: 2/5)
If you can like death metal now then just put one song on repeat for a while until it starts making sense (I'd suggest "Slit Your Guts", but any one of them would be nearly as good). If it's all going by in a haze then it's not going to mean anything, but when you can start making the riffs and their textures out then there's not a single album like it afaik. Music that brutal and immediate while having that kind of layered textures may or may not exist and you'd be missing out on everything that is death metal if you just played it once and declared defeat yet again.

No; I'm going to run it once a day and see if it makes any difference to how I originally perceived it by the end of that run. We'll see how it goes.

That’s why I asked about the guitar riffs. They’re kind of hidden in there, aren’t they?

All I heard originally - and pretty much every time since - was a wall of noise. I'll see if this changes over this coming week. I'm not a huge fan of Death Metal anyway, but I would like to have something to say about this one. Whether I will be able to or not, is another matter entirely.

Which is why I said you should get familiar with three minutes of the album before you try to digest the entire thing. It was a wall of sound for me too for a long time, then it just clicked and sounded completely different to me from then on. I was pretty high at the time, which helped, but you just need to learn how to hear those riffs.

I honestly don't think None So Vile is nearly as obtuse as a lot of technical death metal that tries way too hard to throw everything and the kitchen sink into one song. Cryptopsy actually like to sit on riffs for a surprising amount of time (considering how fast they're playing) and just revel in the glory of their latest sick riff. Once you can hear that they're really not at all unlistenable. It's just a bit of a learning curve.

TBH I'm really not one for imagining artists actually performing their songs (I'm more of a picturing an abstract concept of what they might look like if I were on acid) but Cryptopsy always make me picture them with **** eating grins on their faces as they slay riff after riff, for some reason with a cigarette in their lips as if they're rehearsing in a garage or something rather than actually on stage.

Now you sound like Frownland.
Leave it with me; I'll either get it or I won't. Time will tell.

And listening to it in a different way might make the difference between getting it and not. But you do you, bro.

Meh, I'll listen with my ears, if that's alright with you.

Your ears are inadequate. You have to use your brain too.

My brain's at the shop. Should have it back me in six to eight ... what are those things? Not days. Years? No, weeks. Six to eight weeks. Whatever that means.
