Default How do you organize your music?

Hi! been trying so many methods to organize my music and playlists. I'm personally using Spotify for my music needs.

Do you add every song/album you like to your library? which things you do save to the library? Do you just add things to playlists? how do you manage your playlists?

I used to organize everything in genre playlists (rock, electronic etc) but its taking too much effort and not always clear what should go where. So for now I just add nice songs I find to the library

Please share your technics

cheers!

I don't have an e-library at the moment and it sucks, but I know some people who organize their music exactly how Allmusic does (they just copy the data from their site), which is by mood and most basic description of genre. So basically, all guitar based music including Slayer is "pop/rock", which some people don't like but the moods are what sets everything apart. Not sure how it was done exactly, but there's probably a decent service where you can add tags like the moods of each album or song, etc.

I rank my playlists by tier

tier 3 playlists songs get deleted and maybe moved to tier 1 or 2 or both after 1 listen

tier 2 songs get one listen and deleted

tier 1 stay on random rotation without deletes

My Spotify is a mess, but my CD's are where I have all the music I care about the most. It's one shelf for the favorites, one shelf for the second tier, and another shelf for the least important albums. The two first shelves are merely alphabetical - no genre sorting. The third shelf isn't even sorted at all. I guess I don't feel a massive need to sort everything, since I pretty much know what I have.

I probably should do something about my Spotify. It's just a big pile.

I try to keep my physical collection more or less in alphabetical order but that's about it.

You’re lucky to be younger. When I was your age it was off to the record store after every paycheck. I could own a ****ing home.

I honestly feel a little guilty about it too having seen the artist's end of it. While I can't go overboard because I'm saving up right now, I'm trying to be better with supporting artists that are really important to me. F. ex I own a copy of the 6 top albums that will be on my best of 2017 list.

My organization system for my cds is so ****ing complicated. I have six numbered rubber containers with post it notes and dates all over them.

I would categorize mine by genre. I had a section for British Rock and another section for San Francisco Rock, etc. It was pretty anal but it worked for me.
