I don't know if Ramones wanted it that way - to have their songs used for commercials. I've heard that Tom Petty never wanted any of his songs in commercials, kudos to him for standing his ground.

I don't need to hear snippets of "Who Are You?" a million times. That is like the audio version of Chinese water torture. Not only you hear as the theme song for CSI but for commercial of the show too.
All C.S.I Theme song

Yeah. As a college kid I saw the difference between touring bands and local bands. Touring bands were generally very serious and businesslike off stage. I know there are exceptions but I thought to myself like what’s the point of not having a job if you treat it like a job. Thus, local jerkoffs and “working” musicians.

I understand that The Clash were serious and out to get paid but I think you’re overstating their lack of sincerity.

I think they believed in what they said but not to the extent that they'd ever let it get in the way of their career. And if they did it's probably because they didn't think it was getting in the way or they thought that taking the high road was the True Path to their musical career. But if they'd ever have gotten as big as U2 then they'd probably have just become U2.

Whatever they did or however they felt, they made Sandinista!. I still have the triple album I bought when I was in 8th grade (I guess). If U2 made records for the next thousand years it all wouldn’t be worth just the sound of the needle hitting the vinyl on Sandinista!. So there’s no ****ing way, ever on this earth, that The Clash could ever be U ****ing 2. ****ing never. **** that.

Lots of people take their music seriously. You pretty much have to just take words that people say, even as lyrics, at some sort of face value even if you feel like their lifestyle contradicts that. Who wants to be in a band and not earn any money and just settle for making ****ty music when you can earn lots of money and reach millions of people and use better production equipment to experiment with? Almost any smart person would take it, but few have the opportunity so it's easy for them to turn their noses up at such things.

Yeah, except for that you don't automatically compromise art or values by making money. If money becomes the main priority over making good music, then I agree with you but that's not always the case. Just judge the music by how it sounds to you and worry about the other stuff when the band starts being substandard, that's all I can really say about it.

True. Money didn't prevent the Beatles from making Abbey Road.

You should spend that energy on coming to terms with the truth.
