This has moments where the album is fun, and moments where it falls off. This album can be boring but at moments it can be somewhat interesting. I don't have any desire to listen to this ever again, and this being the second listen for myself I can honestly say I didn't enjoy myself anywhere near as much when I listened to it for the first time. 6/10

Strong album. The jazzier it gets the better it gets, and 'King Kunta' is a great single, with 'These Walls' being my 2nd favorite. Perhaps the biggest magic trick Kendrick pulled here was getting an experimental album like this in front of a mainstream audience that wouldn't give someone else, such as EL-P, the time of day if he had done this record.
This album probably feels even more relevant to some folks than it did in 2015, though Kendrick's subject matter doesn't really hurt nor elevate the material here for me: it's just kinda there. Thankfully the production behind it remains a wonder to behold.

It would've made it in if talking about American race politics didn't make some of our members so uncomfortable.

Which record? The first three are unassailable.

It Takes a Million To Hold Us Back for certain. I'll be giving other PE albums closer listens as my top 25 project gets into the late eighties, early nineties, but I'm pretty sure Fear of a Black Planet and Apocalypse 91 will rate high too.
