I've had this one a lonnnnnnnng time even if I only revisit it periodically. Always thought 'Tranquilized' and 'Scream Of The Butterfly' were jams. 8 out of 10.

"Scream of the Butterfly" would have been the 90s "Fade to Black" if anyone had a brain, and it would have been the hottest song of the decade if anyone shouldn't have been shot in the head. OMG is it one of the best songs ever written.

It's right up there for me with 'Silent Lucidity' and 'Cemetery Gates' as far as crossover appeal goes - just a universally good song.

Honestly it ****s on those songs by about ten miles and is just mind bendingly brilliant. The entire album is amazing but that song in particular is a top 10 song of all-time possibly. One of those songs I can just put on repeat for an hour and zone out to. And I like "Silent Lucidity" and "Cemetery Gates", but "Scream of the Butterfly" is in its own league of atmospheric nihilism. Even that opening bass riff all by itself is enough to put me in the mood to care about nothing for as long as I care not to feel. And those ****ing lyrics are everything that can be gloriously wrong with the Earth.

Since this isn't a metal board I'd say that's easily a shoe in.

I really liked this album. A lot of the songs sound the same, but for that reason I thought it was more consistent since it's a sound that isn't really annoying and it's easy to listen to for the length of the full album. Scream Of The Butterfly was my favorite song, I liked how it was a good change of pace and had this nice mellow vibe to it. This was a good album that I was surprised I liked as much as I did, I could see myself buying this album, and I gave it a 9.

When the Kite String Pops is the definition of an extreme(ish) metal that is far more song-based and not repetitive. It's got plenty of sludge, but mixes it up with stoner, death metal, thrash, alt rock, and all sorts of **** that mixes seamlessly while still making the majority of songs their own thing that means that if you want to hear that sound then you have to listen to that specific song. I mean "Jezebel" has straight up proto-deathcore moments without even realizing that the genre would ever become a thing.

To be honest if this album has one flaw I'd say that the amount of influences can water it down as a sludge album, which isn't really a complaint so much as it is a reason to go to Eyehategod when I just want pure sludge.

yeah i don't know that the album deserves to be classified with any genre, i hear sludge and stoner thrown around a lot but it has way too much going on to be nailed down. imo it's just a damn near perfect metal album.

This (and their last) are albums that any drug-loving bitch monster should love.
Full of creepy butt-goblin goodness in all its variety of styles that makes it artful
and poetic without being something only an elitist whale fondler would love. 9.2
I saw them a month before the bassist got hit by a car. Could'a been a contender.
