Maybe because it's based on a song, meaning one song, not songs.

I may like one song, say by Madness, because it stands out in some way. I then would list other songs by other groups or artists that stand out in similar ways. The idea is to get similar songs suggested that I haven't heard before, or didn't think of, popping up, because they have been associated with some of the songs I listed, by other users.

Instead I'm getting the entire Madness catalogue suggested, or similar artist from the same time period, which, before you know it, might end up in something like Best of 80's pop hits. See the difference?

Might as well just give up then.

Wait, first of all, if you put in, for instance, "Our House,": out of 30 similar tunes, only TWO are from Madness (and one of those is "Our House"). So, you are given 29 similar tunes to the one you put in and you can choose to keep them in a Spotify playlist or not. Also, how in the hell is it supposed to know what you've heard before? Unless they've changed, I understand that Pandora does base its selections on songs (rhythm, meter, expression/mood, etc.). What is it in a song that you think some software should be listening for in order to give you a new song that you've never heard before? Another thing: if you place a bunch of tunes in a Spotify playlist and start the playlist radio, you can get similar tunes as well.

Think you have to read my post again. I don't expect any person or radio station to know what I haven't heard. I would have to be quite psychotic to believe in something like that now wouldn't I? Since you don't know me you should avoid making such assumtions based on two forum posts you didn't care to read right.

Nothing. I want suggestions based on matches with other users playlists as I said. Regarding the Madness example, how is any algoritm supposed to know what to suggest based on someone liking the song Our House? If not other songs by Madness or other artists pop hits from the same era, should it suggest other songs about houses? Maybe some house music?

Why didn't you just say so right away? Sounds more or less exactly like what I'm looking for
